Championship Update Part 1 - V0.6
Happy to present a brand new update finally bringing championship mode into the game. This is part 1 of 2 major updates, adding core gameplay elements and improving some much needed areas. Changes in more detail:
Championship mode
Finally the main gamemode of this game has been added. Create your own team, choose a teammate and compete against 11 other teams across a 16 round season. In your first season, the cars performance will be poor as you will at the back. But after every race you can spend an upgrade point for the chance to improve the car's performance or gain a random perk. The randomness of upgrading gives an uncertainty to the performance and prevents cheesing. The teams and drivers are all randomly generated so your championship is always unique, plus there's a system in place to dynamically swap out drivers after each season, so it's as realistic as possible.
After each season, the team that finishes last will be dropped for a new one. Also all teams are assigned new upgrade points and a new random performance value depending where they placed the previous season. So pushing to finish high as possible in the season, could potentially benefit you the following season. We hope that over the course of a few seasons, drivers and teams will naturally rise and fall like a real motorsport series, without the racing ever getting stale.
The next update will have sponsorship mechanics added, as this is a big part of motorsports, and more in depth information on individual teams and drivers to explore.
URP and new textures
The lighting and rendering has been switched to Universal Rendering Pipeline to allow far more advanced lighting and texturing techniques. This was important to do, to allow the foundations for car livery designs and decals for tracks. So with this we've now started adding minor texture details such as skid marks and road markings. Some of the textures have finally had an update, moving away from the prototype graphics to a more polished look. This is an area that will be finished in the next major update.
New and updated tracks
This is by far the biggest update for tracks, firstly 3 tracks have had their layouts tweaked. They are these below:
Gold Beach - The second half of the lap has been made easier as it was too difficult for both player and AI cars. The hardest section has now been reduced into a fast chicane and right angle turn.
Lake Voiture - The tightest corners at the beginning have been smoothed out because they were awkward. A fast chicane was added in the middle section as it was quite dull.
Imoto Park - Almost all the corners have been tweaked and simplified because this was an incredibly challenging track compared to the other race tracks. It should now be easier for the player and AI.
Now onto the new tracks. We've added 5 tracks all with unique personalities, they are as follows:
Forest Ruins - Travel deep into a belgium forest and navigate around medieval castle ruins.
Oasis - The first track set in the desert. Speed around the wide streets of Dubai in this modern circuit.
Viento Circuit - Race over the plains of sunny Spain and maneuver through the multiple chicanes on this fast track.
Pine Creek - Tackle the twisting roads along steep cliffs and a canadian river, with a danger of getting too close to the edge.
Collision Arena - A tiny track with plenty of potential for some messy races.
Improved car designs and livery foundations
The prototype cars have been removed to make way for upgraded car models. These 2 new cars are far more detailed and even include little drivers at the wheel. A livery system has been implemented to allow switching livery designs and colours. However only 1 design is available for now, with more coming in the next update.
The next major update, that is some time from being released, will be the final major update for this itchio version of the game. It will include sponsorship mechanics for championship mode that will allow sponsor designs on cars. Also there will be an information and history panel of every team and driver in your championship. Plus some major audio improvements. Finally, more visual changes such as textures, track decorations, car effects, and of course, the last of the tracks and car models will be added.
